An informal, yet most sincere and grateful w e l c o m e !
For those of you that don’t know me, my name is Haley Stessman and I am thrilled at the opportunity to engage with you about one of my favorite topics: sports!
However, before I get too ahead of myself, as is often the case, let me provide you with some personal background. I have grown up in the Midwest and adore everything it represents: family, friendliness, and a certain simplicity of life. I am a proud daughter, sister, and Hawkeye. I am about to embark on my second year of college at the University of Iowa intending to major in Information Systems & Data Analytics, with minors in Sports & Recreation Management and Spanish. I am a lover of learning, local coffee shops (open to recommendations!), and all that is sports.
For as long as I can remember, my life has revolved around sports. How cliche, yet true. Various examples of the high prominence of sports in my life include:
• A childhood highlighted by competitive soccer beginning at age four, a multi-year dabble in basketball where my “shoe game” was better than my actual “game,” and an establishment of a lifelong love for running in high school.
• I wrote my college essay about my love for college football. Do you suppose many other females can boast the same?
• My Christmas of 2013 was highlighted by a massive Adrian Peterson FatHead. What’s that? Pictures or it didn’t happen? Yep, it happened.
• For the past 18 years, having my fall weekend look like: dashing out of school on a Friday afternoon, packing my bag into our family RV and beginning the 4 hour trek to Iowa City, IA. Awaking early on a Saturday morning to begin tailgating, finding Row 10 of the 50 yard line in Kinnick Stadium, screeching until my voice vanished, returning to the RV for more socializing and casual post-game analysis conversations. Driving home Sunday morning perusing ESPN and BTN articles on the weekend rundown of games.
I simply cannot explain how much sports mean to me in the “About” section of a blog, but that is where the foundation of this blog lies. I created this coexisting blog and Instagram with an aim to spread sport knowledge and news in an aesthetic and informative manner to an audience of females (guys are welcome, too!). I so strongly desire to create an uplifting, collaborative environment in which information is spread to girls with a novice interest and proficiency in the sports world, or girls with a similar level of enthusiasm regarding historic college athletic scandals or the finer details of Title IX as me!
I am eager for this journey and all of the accompanying possibilities this page can provide! If I inspire, inform, or connect with at least one female as a result of this page I would consider that a championship “dub!”
Best,
H a l e y
